Downfall by Matthew Wright

If you do not follow Hartselle Tiger Times or Matthew Wright on Instagram, which you definitely should, then there is a good chance that you are not acquainted with the fact that one of our students here at Hartselle High has both written and released a brand new song. It is incredibly well made and is very impressive. This talented student is Matthew Wright, who wrote and performed his song “Downfall”. With incredible musical ability, he sings about a theoretical breakup describing his figurative ex as his downfall with a devastating story. Matthew believes this song is relatable to anyone going through a breakup. He emphasized the importance of the lyrics being both church appropriate and representative of his faith.

It took Matthew about three months to write the whole song and about thirty straight hours of recording to get it to the point he wanted. He had a multitude number of edits and rewrites. He has enjoyed success and has many supporters and fans listening to his music.

To hone his skills as an instrumentalist, Matthew is the lead youth worship leader at First Independent Methodist Church in Flint and is making new music constantly. He plays the guitar and the piano extremely well along with the electric guitar, the bass, the ukulele, the drums, the harmonica and the saxophone. He decided when he was around thirteen to start to create, and sing music. He describes his first music as “quite bad,” but he noted that he has improved at an incredible rate. He has many more songs planning using many different instruments.

Matthew has decided to use his musical abilities for God and is trying to live as close to God as he possibly can. He realized that since God gave him the ability to sing, he should use his voice to glorify God. He encourages anyone who is interested in music to “just do it.” If you dream of playing music then continue to do so and do not get discouraged. You may feel that what you are writing is not good, but that is how Matthew used to feel. He now actually makes money through his voice, through YouTube ads and iTunes purchases, and you can too. So if your dream is to be a musician, stick to it. Take a chance and act on your dreams and visions! Go for what you want and try to learn from your experiences. Matthew achieved his dreams, and so can you!
