The new Olivia Rodrigo song, Bad Idea, Right? has been hit with a wave of excitement from her fans, but is it appropriate? This song talks about her ex, and it started out as a joke with her and her writers. Then, it actually started coming together to make a good song. Since the release date, there has been a follow up album called Guts. This album includes other songs like Vampire, Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl and Pretty isn’t Pretty.
Olivia Rodrigo became famous for her album, Sour, which was released May 21, 2021. Her song, Drivers License, was the hit song of this album. Her new song, Bad Idea Right?, released August 7, 2023, repeats in the chorus, “Seein’ you tonight, it’s a bad idea, right?” This is the main lyric of the toxic wording of this song talking about her experience with her ex. With her putting these lyrics in her song and teens listening to it, it may persuade them to do the same as well as subconsciously make it okay for them to go back to their destructive past
On top of this, she knows what she is doing is unacceptable, with her saying, “Now I'm gettin in the car, wreckin’ all my plans. I know I should stop but I can’t.” According to some students at Hartselle High School that have listened to the song, they agreed that the song is good and overheard great things about it, but others think that it is a poor song and don’t think the lyrics are suitable for teens to listen to.
