The HHS cheer team ended their season this month. Thank you to all the cheerleaders for constantly encouraging HHS teams and supporting our players. Congratulations to seniors Ashley Dolbeer (Captain), Chloe Palmer, Peyton Thompson, Taylor Dozier, Caroline Wilson, and Regan Wood for an outstanding cheerleading career with the Tigers!
The Les Amies Sorority hosted a Hollywood-themed Winter Formal at Brick Haven in Cullman Feb. 20, 2021. Many students gathered with their friends to take photos and eat dinner before it started. All members of the sorority were led out by Les Amies big brothers before the formal started around 9 p.m. Then, the music started and attendees danced with their friends. HCS had a “snow week” from Feb. 15-19. Students were out of school Feb. 15-16 for Presidents’ Day, and then the snow started falling! School was virtual for the remainder of the week. Hartselle received the most snow so far this year with the ground covered in it.
SGA sold and delivered Candy Grams to HHS students the week before Valentine’s Day. HHS junior Sara Burke bought a candy gram for every teacher in the school to show them her appreciation.
The HHS Wrestling team had 12 state qualifiers: Jacob Doshier 106, Gage Roberts 113, Lincon Bryant 120, Jameyson Waits 126, Ethan England 132, Payton Roberts 138, Jameson Falciani 145, Caden McDonald 152, Brody Wade 160, Daniel Bolio, 182, Xander Waddell 220, and Ryan Garrison 285. This qualification ties a Hartselle record. The team finished 18th out of 60 teams. Lincoln Bryant finished 4th at 120 pounds and Ryan Garrison finished 7th at 285 pounds.
The Varsity boys baseball team has started their season with wins against Bob Jones (2 times), Locust Grove, Houston. The team is currently ranked number 1 in 6A in the state and number 2 overall in the state.
The HHS Lady Tigers softball team has had a few cancellations. They plan to win big against teams
The tennis team started their season off successfully. The boys have won against Decatur and Decatur Heritage, and the girls team beat Decatur Heritage.
The boys soccer team has already dominated this season, winning all their season’s games so far. The team beat Priceville, Haleyville, Montevallo and Arab. Senior Keegan Zanda was ranked number 1 in the state for number of goals scored.
The girls Varsity soccer team beat Arab, Priceville and Pinson Valley so far. They begin area play next week.
HCS staff members received their second dose of the COVID vaccine March 5. Students went to school for half of that day to alleviate the need for substitute teachers.
Mu Alpha Theta inducted 66 students into the honor society. These students received exceptional grades in their advanced math courses. 16 sophomores were inducted, all receiving higher than a 95 in their advanced math classes. The society raises funds to buy calculators for HHS students.
The National Technical Honor Society inducted 85 new members into it this month. To be inducted, students had to complete at least 2 courses within their Career Academy, have a 3.7 GPA for career academy courses, a 3.0 GPA overall, a member of their Career Academy student organization, and no disciplinary infractions.
The HHS Speech and Debate Team hosted the Big Questions Debate Event this month. Keegan Hembree finished in 3rd place. G.G. Stout won runner-up by one speaker point, and Samantha Simmons was the event champion.
Sarah Burke placed 3rd in the Morgan County FFA Public Speaking Contest.
Members of HHS DECA competed in the state competition. Sarah Chandler, Maggie Guyse, and Eli Terry won in Integrated Marketing Campaign- product. Lyndsey Crouch won third place in accessories and apparel merchandising.
Mrs. Kim Goins was named the State of Alabama HOSA Advisor of the Year! Congratulations to Mrs. Goins!
Students Kennon Champlin, Juliana Davis, Breanna Doyle, Mekhi Kalil, and Reagan Watson had their artwork selected for the Youth Art Month Exhibition. Student artwork will be on display for public viewing during March in the gallery at the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur.
