On Tuesday, February 25, Hartselle High School’s (HHS) Teaching Academy met for its second annual Teaching Conference. The conference is designed to help students prepare for a regular work environment in teaching. Students spent the day attending a conference which is designed to emulate a teaching workshop.
Each student knew before-hand their preferred grade level and subject. The conference had specialized classes for each personal need of the students. For Instance, if a student wants to be a ninth grade math teacher, then he or she could go to classes which would prepare him or her to teach math or classes that would prepare them for management of high school students. The classes were not purely just to help prepare students to teach. The conference had a class based on the mental health of teachers and how to avoid burnout. Topics such as these are important for inspiring young teachers to be aware of.
The conference also featured a class on becoming a librarian and how to use resources such as the library while teaching. It showed the different modern technologies that a new-generation librarian would use. The modernization of librarians includes robotics and art which would not have been heard of even just a few years ago.
Current HHS students or upcoming students who wish to pursue a career in the education field or have even a slight interest in the subject should join the HHS Teaching Academy. Teaching is a wonderful job opportunity which involves wisdom and creativity as well as the opportunity to make an impact on a young child’s life.
