Senior Spotlight: Savannah Clark on staying at HHS, Spanish, and the Teaching Academy

Have you always attended HCS? Do you have a favorite teacher from elementary or junior high?

No, I started HCS in 6th grade. My favorite teacher from the junior high would have to be Mrs. Morgan.

Do you remember your first day of school? How did you feel?

My first day I was a nervous wreck. I was lost between every class, and I wasn't familiar with any teachers.

What would be your advice to upcoming HHS students?

Your high school days can be the best days of your life, if you allow them to be. Enjoy everything because it goes by so fast.

You moved recently, right? An hour away? Why did you stay at HHS despite the long drive every day? Was it worth it?

I stayed at Hartselle because of the teachers and opportunities that it offered me. We moved the summer before my senior year, and we knew no matter what it took that I was staying with Hartselle. It was a very long drive, especially with a zero period and working after school, but it was well worth it. I had several teachers offer me a place to stay if I was ever too tired or the weather was just to bad for me to drive home. I never did, but it was always a great feeling knowing that my teachers cared about me, not only in school, but also in my life outside of school.

Why did you take Spanish all four years? What did you enjoy about it?

I took Spanish all four years because I enjoyed learning a new language. I have never had another foreign language teacher, but I still think Sr. Will is the best! He tried to make everything as interactive and fun as he could.

How did you get involved in the teaching academy? What did you enjoy about it?

The teacher academy started my freshmen year when I was placed in there, not by choice. I almost quit several times that year, because I wasn't motivated to be there, and I didn't think I had a passion for teaching. I made amazing friends, and earned a life long respect for teachers. I enjoyed everything we did in the teacher academy.

Who was your favorite teacher? What about your favorite class?

I love all my teachers at HHS, if I had to choose Mrs. Edde would be my favorite. I know that I can always go to her for advice and support. The teacher academy also has to be my favorite, because of all the great adventures and memories I gained in Mrs. Edde's class and in the elementary classroom.

What is something you are proud of in the last four years? And if you could redo high school in any way, would you?

Graduating has to be my greatest accomplishment in high school. My dad died when I was four months old, and it was his dream for his two children to graduate. If I could redo high school, I would, but I wouldn't change a thing.

What are your future plans?

I am going to Paul Mitchell for Cosmetology, and then we will see where my imagination leads me next.

Do you believe HHS has prepared you for the future? If so, in what ways?

Yes, Hartselle has taught me that I can succeed in anything and everything I set my mind too.

Do you have any advice for upcoming seniors?

Just live, go to games and events. Don't hold yourself back from anything.

Do you have any major goals for your life?

Be happy. No matter where I go or what my future holds, I just want to be happy.

Congratulations, Savannah!
