Every year, Hartselle’s student body and staff gather in anticipation at the annual homecoming football game to see the homecoming king and queen be announced and crowned. The king nominees are chosen from every club, sport and elective, and with over 25 in just elective classes, it's safe to say that the competition gets heated.
Each and every candidate, whether they raised $100 or $3,000 ,helped contribute to the overall total of $39,000. Coen Dutton (nominated by the cheer team) raised over $2,000 in support for the school. With many of the senior boys raising significant amounts of money, only one could come out on top, that being Landon Blackwood, with over $12,000 raised for Hartselle High School.
The Hartselle king receives a gift bag and the honor of crowning the Hartselle homecoming queen. The top three homecoming queen nominees are chosen by student vote out of twenty girls in the senior class. The top three queen nominations included Bailey Hill, Hollyn Harden and Camille Speering. The girls, while all deserving of the crown, were voted on by the entire student body at HHS.
At the homecoming football game, the girls stood on the feild as they waited for the queen to be crowned. Bailey Hill was announced as the winner and accepted her crown with grace. With Hill being awarded the HHS 2023 homecoming queen she “would really like to thank [her] classmates, family and friends for an unforgettable experience.” She says she “wasn't expecting to win,” but she is “so grateful that [she] got to represent” her class of 2024.
Though Landon Blackwood was injured during the game, he was still just as excited as Hill when he walked onto the field, crown in hand. The two smiled as their pictures were taken, and they left the field. This cinematic senior experience is something every girl and guy can wish for, but with only two people being able to experience it, everyone at Hartselle can agree that the two were the perfect pick.
