Girls basketball finish in the Elite 8

The Lady Tiger Basketball Team made another trip to Wallace State for the Northwest Regional game against Hazel Green. Even though they came up a little short with a 32-25 loss, they gave Coach Gary Orr a season to be proud of with a 25-3 record.

Due to Covid this year, the Wallace game was the Regional Championship game. We usually play the Sweet 16 there too, but this year that regional Semi-final game was at Madison Academy. This is where the Lady Tigers beat Madison Academy to move on to Wallace.

This team had some huge wins this year by defeating Muscle Shoals three times to clinch the Area Championship. They were 6-0 in the area games. Their only three losses this year were to Madison Academy and Hazel Green. The Madison Academy and first Hazel Green loss was without a full team. Masyn Marchbanks was out with an ankle injury and Alyssa McMinemon was in quarantine. Karleigh Shipley was out with an injury in the first half of the season as well.

Point guard Masyn Marchbanks is really going to miss the three senior players: Lillyanna Cartee, Hailey Holshouser and Millie Evans. They all three brought something very special to the court on a daily basis. Marchbanks said, “Lillyanna had the ability to lead by example because she always gave her best effort on and off the court. Hailey’s hustle pushed others to work hard and her inclusiveness of everyone gelled us together as a team. Millie’s positive attitude and personality always kept the mood light and kept everyone smiling.” We wish these seniors good luck in their future endeavors.

We are very excited to see what the future holds for the Lady Tigers. We have many talented athletes coming up in the program. Masyn Marchbanks is close to 1500 points right now, so hopefully, we will be looking for a game where she hits 2000. She has committed to Samford University in Birmingham.
