40 Years of Silence

Originally titled The Babysitter Murders, the plot of Halloween is based on Michael Myers, who escapes from a mental institution after 15 years to return to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illonies.

John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) provides lots of horror and suspense, bringing viewers on a terrifying journey. It starts out with a six year old Michael Myers killing his sister Judith in the opening scene. Michael is then sent away to a mental institution where he lives for the next 15 years until his psychiatrist Dr Samuel Loomis and nurse Marion Chambers arrive there to escort Michael to court. Michael overpowers Marion and steals her car. Michael returns to his hometown of Haddonfield on Halloween in which he immediately restarts his killing spree. Laurie and her friends are stalked by Michael all night. Despite being shot numerous times, Michael the killer gets away and viewers are left wondering when Michael might reappear and what really happened to him. This of course paved the way for the other ten movies!

Halloween (2018) was directed by David Gordon Lee and it acts as a direct sequel to the original 1978 movie. The main similarity between the two movies is that Laurie reappears .The film fast forwards 40 years in which Laurie is now a grandmother. Laurie has lived the last 40 years in fear that Michael might return. Laurie begins drinking heavily and distancing herself from the world. Karen, Laurie’s daughter, is a psychologist and dismisses her mother’s fear as ‘post traumatic stress disorder’. Since her last encounter with Michael she refuses to believe that she is safe.

Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked man returns to Haddonfield… but this time, she’s ready for him.
